Fours Class

We had a busy week in the 4's class this week. We are already working on the letter D. Each week with the letter of the week we talk about things that start with that letter. Your child should know several words for each letter. You can help by asking your child for things that start with any of the letters we have worked with. Another idea to hep your child with remembering the letters is  when you see things that start with one of the letters written out, like on cereal boxes, store signs or other places ask then what letter it is.

Wednesday afternoon we did an activity using Oreo cookies. The children got to try to see how many cookies they could stack before the stack fell over.  Ask your child how they did  They got to eat the cookies when we were all done. It is safe to say that everyone but one child loves Oreo cookies.

Friday we tasted donuts for D. Thanks to Irma's parents for providing the donuts. Each child got to taste (and eat) 3 different kinds of donuts. I think this class has a sweet tooth, as almost everyone quickly ate all their samples.

The Friday folders has a note and sign in for a new website the school is trying out. It is called IXL. I showed each child how to work on the site. Please go and see what you think about it.  This activity is something that you will need to be with them as they do it. I will be sending another site home next week. We as a school are trying 2 different sites and will be picking one to use for the year. Let e know what you think about the sites, both your likes and dislikes We want input from parents.

Reminder:
*Homework is due Friday
*Reading logs are due Friday
*Folders are due on Monday

Holy Week

Parents:

Just a reminder we will be going to Mass tomorrow. Please talk to your children about their Mass Manners. We have been talking about Holy Week and how important this week is. We will be going to church on Thursday to watch the 2nd grade in the Last Supper.

Library was yesterday and if your child did not come home with a book it was because they were not doing the right thing in library class. Courtney read to them and several children did not listen and played around.  They were given several warnings and told they would not be able to get a book. We have just 6 weeks left in school and we are working on kindergarten behavior for next year.

Friday is a half day and we will be dismissing at 11:30, which is a half hour before the main school.  There will be no school on Monday.

This week and next week were are doing some activities with food and I need some donations.  We will be doing some activities with pretzels and  I need 3 bags of the traditional shaped pretzels. If you can donate please send me an e mail. I am also looking for several different kinds of jelly beans. There are a lot of different kinds and I am looking for at least 4 different kind for some activities next week. Again if you can donate please send me a e mail with the kind you will be getting. We are doing a whole day's worth of activity, so I will needs several bags of each kind.

Reminders:

Starfall.com is a great source for ABC review.

*Please send a snack for the afternoon

*Last homework paper is going home this Friday. If you have any letter papers at home please send them in. I will be giving each child a booklet with all their homework papers in it for a keepsake.

*We do go outside and play so please dress accordingly.

*Dismissal on Friday is 11:30 and there is NO Aftercare on Friday.

Spring Arrives today

Parents:

Spring is here, finally. Today is the first day of spring and hopefully all the snow is behind us. We talked about spring and signs of spring to look for. A great activity to do with your child is to go outside and walk around your yard or a park and look for the signs that spring is here. Make sure to ask your children questions about what they see and have them answer in a complete sentence. It is important to help your child use a complete sentence when talking with you. We are working on this in class.

Vocabulary is very important during this stage of your child’s life. You can really help your child grow simply by talking to them. Don’t take for granted that they know what something is called, ask them. A trip to the store is a great place to start teaching new words to your child. You can help them build their vocabulary every time you talk with them. We all need to remember to put our phone’s down and talk with our children.

Thanks for sending in the reading logs. Reading each night helps build vocabulary.

Spring Is Near.......Hopefully!!!!!!

What a wild week. We have had at least 4 kids out sick each day. Parents have been reporting the stomach flu, sore throat and coughing. Courtney has even been out all week with the flu.  Please remember that your child needs to be fever free for at least 24 hours without medicine to come to school. Hopefully Spring is just around the corner and the nice fresh air will help everyone.

We are just about done with our ABC's. We will be spending the weeks after break reviewing our letters.  Starfall.com is a great site for this review. It gives a variety of activities for each letter as well as the sound. You can help your child review by asking them letters using things around the house as well as signs on the road.

Most of the children are finishing their morning work. If you get a paper home in the Friday folder and it say "Please Finish", this is work they did not complete at school. I will only send home work that they had time to finish.  If something comes home not complete, but has no note then it does not need to be returned. I am working on getting them ready for next year.

I will be adding things to the sign up genius for some additional taste testing we will be doing after we are finished with the ABC's. I want them to try new things. We are also in need of girl things for our store. Nail polish and hair things are great as well as board games.
